Emetil is used for treating various mental and mood disorders. It is also indicated for alleviating nausea and uncontrollable hiccups.
The appropriate dosage and administration depend on the patient's medical conditions. However, it is generally advised to take the medication two to four times a day. Emetil is available in tablet form, extended-release capsules, oral liquids, and rectal suppositories. It can be taken both before and after meals. Following the prescribed instructions will yield the best results.
Emetil is not recommended for individuals with known hypersensitivity to this medication or its components, those with existing CNS depression, coma, bone marrow suppression, or phaechromocytoma. It is also advised against for breastfeeding or pregnant women, or those planning to become pregnant, to avoid serious adverse effects.
Emetil may interact with antiparkinson medications and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), potentially resulting in an anticholinergic crisis. Additionally, it may interact when used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Reports indicate it can also interact with sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, general anesthetics, opiates, and alcohol.
There are several potential serious and mild side effects associated with Emetil if it is not appropriate for your body or if taken in excess. Common side effects may include dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, mydriasis, agitation, insomnia, depression, and convulsions; as well as postural hypotension, ECG changes, allergic skin reactions, amenorrhea, gynecomastia, weight gain, hyperglycemia, and increased serum cholesterol levels.
